TBT Wrong About Bloggers
TBT, the local free tabloid (Which I love) had an article Friday about the average blogger. I'm confused. They stated that they believed the average blogger is a 14 year old girl writing about her cat. What!
That just shows what happens when a main stream media company tries to understand something that is eroding their own sales (Hence TBT is free).
First of all: I am a 49 year old Man(My friends say I look much younger!). I am a blogger and people leave comments on my blog. To my knowledge, not one underage girl is on my blog. I have made friends on my blog. I have even had a social and had breakfast with local bloggers!
The average blogger who is registered with Tampa Bay Blog-watch is way over 21. They have jobs, lives and are very educated. Tommy Duncan, Addison, Bob Lassiter, Kym and so forth are not children. What the newspaper wrote is ignorant and insulting. If not dangerous.
Whats next? Will Polk county detectives start representing themselves as 14 year olds to entice me in a trap? I don't know.
My brother who is a teacher in California says the reason most people with Internet blogs are liberal, is because it is a Democratic medium that cannot be controlled like Media General tries to do.
Blogging now performs a very important function in our society. For example, some of the news and images coming out the war Zones are from bloggers...way ahead of Sheppard Smith.
I asked the St. Pete Times to do a real article on local bloggers. They then insult us with this dump. I know they read my blog. Hell you did an article about it. Get it right.

Unfortunately they're confusing bloggers with the millions of people on MySpace.

Tim,
RIGHT ON!
I'm over 50 and enjoy my blog and reading others - like yours - regularly.
Fred / Fred's World is our age too - another great blog.
This article is obviously way off!

Well for the record, I haven't been 14 in almost 28 years. However, I still act like a 16 year old in heat. With that said, blogs are very worthy and have provided many news sources with additional outlets. Let us not forget TBT's own little hidden dirty secret of having their own ruffle feathers in blogs and then dismiss one for doing what she was paid to do. Albeit involved ruffling Ronda Storms, it was still what they wanted until someone called fowl.
As a blogger, I am responsible for the content. I do not misprint or intentionally try and cause harm/embarrassment other than to myself.
There are no advisers on my blog because I don't like to be controlled.
Blogs are a way of life. And further more, the St. Pete Times uses a blog format for their mid-day news events. Check it out if you want...
I love your blog and I enjoy what you write about. To insinuate that we are 14 year old girls with cats is rediculous.

FYI, the article in TBT was written by a Washington Post writer. That is, it's a wire report. You're argument is still valid, but I wouldn't hold it against TBT.
Dig your blog. Haven't checked out your picture pages, but do like your blog's "eyes of the night" quality.
